Psychology is so waaay freaking cool. =)
If only there were so little things to memorize, I would study psychology for A-levels. Yesterday evening while I was at Pagan's room, she handed me this A2 psychology textbook and asked me to read about sleeping.
Awesomeness...
Do you know?
There are 2 factors that make you wanna sleep.
1) endogenous factor a.k.a biological clock thingi.
If one person's sleep is influenced mainly by biological clock, then you'd sleep when your biological time is up. To adjust the correct time, there's no telling how long it'll take.
2) exogenous factor , errr.. something to do with outer factor such as light.
Light plays an important role in determining whether one is going to sleep or not. Amazing eh?
Presence of light discourages the release of melatonin from the pituitary gland. Darker environment would therefore, stimulates release of melatonin. The darker the place is, the more melatonin is released. Melatonin is the hormone that makes people wanna sleep.
In conclusion, if you can't sleep at night but really feel like sleeping in the morning, your biological clock is damaged. Go get it repaired!!
If you have no problem sleeping at night and when the room really gets dark out of a sudden and you feel like sleeping already, your sleep is influenced by exogenous factor. In this case, you won't suffer terribly from jet lag. =)
I read this example on sleep walking and this guy (no idea what his name is) is superb. He was sleep walking. Walked over one storey high building, fell and landed on his mom's mercedes. Stood up after landed ( still sleeping) and continued walking across the street to nowhere. When he woke up, he realised he had a broken leg.
One more interesting fact:
Menstrual cycle of women can be influenced by pheromones!!
This is scientifically proven by some hamsap psychology person.
Women who are often close to other women in the long term e.g, boarding house etc etc.. seems to have synchronised periods. My friends here in UK used to be in girls' school and they say it's 100% true!!
When one of them say they're having period today, the one listening would automatically have period the next day! How bizarre!!
